Science of synthesis : Houbel-Weyl methods of molecular transformations

Science of Synthesis will consist of a total number of 49 volumes, containing approximately 48,000 pages,
between the years 2000 and 2008.
It is estimated that Science of Synthesis will contain 38,000 methods, 11,000 variations, 24,000 reaction
schemes, 24,000 tables, and will cover ca. 240,000 reactions.

Volume 1: Compounds with Transition Metal - Carbon pi-Bonds and Compounds of Groups 10-8 (Ni, Pd, Pt,
Co, Rh, Ir, Fe, Ru, Os)

This volume covers compounds with transition metal - carbon pi-bonds for groups 10-8. It is the first volume in
the category “Organometallics” and the first volume of the Science of Synthesis series. The elements covered
include Ni, Pd, Pt, Co, Rh, Ir, Fe, Ru and Os and the range of organic pi-bonds includes arene, pentadienyl,
cyclopentadienyl, diene, allyl, alkyne and alkene moieties.

The decision to create a series of volumes on Organometallics was based on an appreciation of the increasing
role that metal complexes play as reagents in organic synthesis. In addition organometallic complexes are
widely used as catalysts or precatalysts in many organic transformations and so their importance is increasing
dramatically over the past quarter century.

Volume 2: Compounds of Groups 7-3 (Mn..., Cr..., V..., Ti..., Sc..., La..., Ac...)

The elements of groups 7-3 as well as other metallic elements provide numerous organometallic
complexes that present a variety of bonding styles and molecular structures. Although these
complexes exhibit characteristic physicochemical properties and biological activities, their
degree of utility in organic synthesis depends largely on each element.
For example, many organometallic complexes of titanium, zirconium, chromium, manganese, and the
lanthanides play important roles as reagents or catalysts in organic synthesis, whereas technetium
and actinide complexes are rarely used in synthesis despite their unique reactivity. It is also
true that the well-characterized complexes prepared by reliable methods are not always important
in synthesis because of their relatively lower reactivity, and, in contrast, in some cases, the
uncharacterized reactive complexes are very useful for organic transformations.
In general, each chapter of this volume consists of a product class of one element, whereas
chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten are described in a combined product class to avoid the
redundancy of the closely related methods. A similar approach is also employed for niobium and
tantalum, zirconium and hafnium, and for scandium, yttrium, and the lanthanides. Each product
class is divided into product subclasses that are described in order of descending hapticity of
the ligands. The section Applications [of the Product Subclass] in Organic Synthesis is utilized
when the product subclass is employed as a reagent or catalyst in organic transformations.
Synthetically important but uncharacterized complexes are also described in this section.

This volume of Science of Synthesis describes the organometallic and organic chemistry of the
metals in groups 12 and 11, namely zinc, cadmium, mercury, copper, silver, and gold. The
breadth of chemistry displayed in this volume is remarkable and, characteristic of the series,
authors have given a selective and critical evaluation of the recent developments in their
areas. Emphasis has been placed on the applications of the compounds synthesized and, wherever
appropriate, relevant experimental procedures have been incorporated into the text.

Volume 4: Compounds of Group 15 (As, Sb, Bi) and Silicon Compounds

In this volume, there are single chapters devoted to each of the three group 15 elements, and
then 42 chapters for the various kinds of silicon-containing compounds used in organic
synthesis. The chapters are organized by the functionality attached to the element, and appear
in an order determined by the rules used for the whole series of Science of Synthesis, with
the space given to each determined both by the range of chemistry that needs to be described
and by the importance of the functional arrangement in synthesis.
The emphasis in all the chapters in this volume, as in other volumes in the series, is on the
synthesis of the compounds in question. In this volume, as in several of those devoted to
organometallic chemistry, there are also substantial sections in most chapters on the uses in
synthesis of each of the different subclasses of compounds, since in most cases the arsenic-,
antimony-, bismuth-, and silicon-containing compounds are rarely an end in themselves.
Organosilicon chemistry is a large subject in which the focus of interest is often the events
taking place at the silicon atom itself. In this volume the focus is on the chemistry of the
carbon-based structures to which the silicon is attached, either directly or through an
electronegative heteroatom.

tin and lead. Arranged by compound class according to the organising principles of Science
of Synthesis, the volume gives preparative details and representative synthetic applications
for each class, and intended to facilitate the application of these reagents in synthetic
organic chemistry.

Volume 6: Boron Compounds

This volume describes the organometallic and organic chemistry of boron. Despite covering just
a single element, an extremely broad spectrum of chemistry is discussed within. The authors
originate from many different countries and research fields, thus representing the modern
scientific community. In this way, it was possible to report on a large number of classical
and actual synthetic developments, as well as potential applications, and to cover a broad
field of topics ranging from asymmetric catalysis, over stereoselective syntheses of
biologically active compounds, to polymeric organic materials with nonlinear optical properties.
A large section was devoted to trialkylboranes, and this section was chosen as a key part for
the description of the selective conversion of carbon–boron bonds, in order to keep a collection
of related synthetic methods together and therefore make it easier to find and compare these
methods. Analogous to Houben–Weyl, Science of Synthesis is also “product based”. This means that
both reactive intermediates and catalysts are treated in the “applications in organic synthesis”
parts of all sections. Additionally, all authors have in general tried to present a practical
and reliable collection of symmetric and asymmetric variants of synthetic methods.

После 6 тома не издали видимо или я найти не могу просто...

К сожалению, всего того, о чем вы написали там попросту нет. Это обычная рекламная брошюрка. В каждом томе по паре тысяч страниц, а тут на все про все сто восемьдесят!
