Antibacterial flavonoids from Desmos chinensis

The chloroform-sol. fraction of the 95% ethanolic ext. of D. chinensis as well as the mix. of the flavonoids 2',4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxychalcone (I) and chrysin (II) exhibited a significant antibacterial activity against a no. of gram-pos. and -neg. organisms. The chloroform-sol. fraction was active against all the test bacteria except Streptococcus faecalis and the mix. of I and II was inactive against S. faecalis and Salmonella typhi A.
