"I believe these molecules should be referred to as acTAG or acetyl-TAG because from a chemical perspective they are triacylglycerols (i.e. three acyl groups - acetate being the shortest acyl group - esterified to a glycerol backbone) and lack the important free hydroxyl group that is present in the glycerol backbone of DAG. From a biological perspective, these molecules are synthesized and function in a similar manner to the typical TAG found in most plants. Referring to them as a modified DAG (i.e. acDAG) implies a completely different suite of chemical properties and biological function".
IUPAC (IUPAC-IUB Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (CBN) Nomenclature of Lipids / Recommendations, 1976) написано следующее:
Lip-1.2. 'Neutral fats' are mono-, di-, or triesters of glycerol with fatty acids, and are therefore termed monoacylglycerol, diacylglycerol, or triacylglycerol, as appropriate. 'Acylglycerols' includes mixtures of any or all of these.
Comments. (a) The term 'acyl' is used in Organic Nomenclature [3] to denote the radical formed by loss of the OH group from the acid function of any acid (cf. Lip-1.6). We are concerned here with acyl radicals of aliphatic carboxylic acids with four or more carbon atoms, the larger members of which (> C10) are also known as 'higher fatty acids'.
